Black505 – Malaysia Rising Against Injustice

Image made for my good friend, Zashnain ( @bedlamfury ), reporting on the massive Black505 rallies in May, 2013 in Malaysia. The rallies were organized to protest alleged widespread electoral fraud by the ruling Barisan Nasional (BN) coalition in general elections on May 5th. Over 80,000 people attended the demonstrations in Penang, and large rallies were are also held Kuala Lampur, Ipoh and other cities.

40 people were arrested for organizing and participating in the initial protests, prompting Human Rights Watch to call for their immediate release and pardon. More were arrested in subsequent Black505 demonstrations as well. The BN party lost the popular vote, but was able to maintain a majority in parliament.
